CN TRAVELLER FEATURE CAROL JOY LONDON STEAM TREATMENT AND PURE COLLAGEN EYE MASK
“Carol Joy Intensive Steam Treatment at The Dorchester Hotel”
What we say: It’s a good thing that the gleaming bright Carol Joy salon is tucked away in the private cocoon of The Dorchester Hotel spa. There are no windows here for anyone to peer through and spot you having the steam treatment, which is terrific but perhaps not the most flattering experience. Designed to give hair a super-boost of moisturising, deep-conditioning TLC, it involves sitting with a peachy-coloured steam-filled turban on your head for 20 minutes.
But if you don’t mind looking like Marge Simpson, with puffs of smoke billowing out periodically, this is brilliant. A thick cotton-wool rim around your forehead stops the hot vapour from coming into contact with your skin (which so often happens with more traditional steam treatments, leaving red blotches on sensitive faces). The result (best when done in conjunction with a colouring treatment to really protect the hair) is an ultra glossy, swishy do.
How long: Twenty minutes for the treatment, plus a snappy 20-minute blow-dry (a lot longer if you throw in highlights too)
Take-home product: Carol Joy Pure Collagen Eye Mask, which can be worn while the treatment is doing its thing.
Top tip: Follow up, if you have time, with a cooling Oxygen Scalp Treatment, a minty air blast along the hairline and partings that makes skin tingle and zing.
